Google have released an updated Quality Score for AdWords, including removing "minimum bids" and providing a more dynamic Quality Score for each search query.
The updates include:
Google will be introducing a helpful new keyword-level bidding metric called 'First Page Bid'. First page bid is an estimate of the bid needed for your ad to reach the first page of search results on Google web search. It will be based on the exact-match version of the keyword, the keyword's Quality Score, and recent advertiser competition on that keyword. Though it's an estimate and not a guarantee of ad placement, the first place bid metric should give you a little more insight with which to plan your bidding strategy.
Additionally, Google will also be removing the minimum bid requirement for our keywords to be active. This means that we will no longer have any 'inactive for search' keywords. All our keywords will have the chance to show ads on search, as long as their Quality Score combined with the CPC bid are competitive, or unless of course we have paused or deleted them. According to Google, the quality score will still play the same important role in our ad's rank, cost, and potential impressions in response to a keyword on search. As always, good Quality Scores will be rewarded with lower CPCs.
