Last Thursday (24th April 2008) Yahoo! launched their updated quality score system, which will mean you could pay less than $0.10 CPC.
Early indications are this is only available within the USA, we are however trying to get hold of our Yahoo! UK contact to confirm this.
Based on Yahoo!'s Blog, they will now use an AdWords (ish) Quality Score system to gauge the minimum CPC required to a keyword level.
So you could have a CPC lower than $0.10, but you could also have a keyword offline if their quality score is poor and a the max CPC is lower than the minimum required.
Yahoo! will look at 2 main factors:
QualityHigh quality generally means that your ads are being clicked more often, relative to your competitors. We try to reward quality with higher rankings and lower costs, and now, potentially, with lower minimum bids.
ValueWe look at a number of things to determine what a keyword is worth: for example, how many advertisers are bidding on your keyword, and what theyre willing to pay for it.
The impact of these new Yahoo! changes are still unknown, we recommend you check the following:
1. Know your keywords and their value. 2. Optimise your creative and landing page to improve your Quality Score. 3. Sign Up to the Yahoo! webinar and get your account manager to call you.
As soon as our Yahoo! AM wakes up and gets to the office (it's 9.14am) we will update and let you know more details.
